Amazon Alexa, also known simply as Alexa, is a virtual assistant technology bought by Amazon in 2013. It was first used in the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Studio and other smart speakers. Alexa app also works on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android and can be used even if you don’t have an Amazon device. You can ask Alexa to play Apple Music just like you use Siri.

Where is Apple Music for Alexa available?

Apple Music for Alexa is available only in Austria, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, United Kingdom, and United States.

Here’s what you need

  • An Apple Music subscription.
  • An Amazon Echo, Amazon Fire TV, or Alexa-enabled Sonos speaker that you already set up with the Amazon Alexa app on your iOS or Android device.
  • The iOS or Android device that you already set up with Alexa. Make sure that you update to the latest iOS and Amazon Alexa app.

Note: You can only use Alexa to play Apple Music on Amazon Echo, Amazon Fire TV, or Alexa-enabled Sonos speaker. Other Alexa-enabled devices are not supported including Bluetooth gear, AirPods, no Kenwood, Bose Portable Smart Speaker, etc.

How to set up Alexa?

  1. Download or update the latest version of the Alexa app on your smartphone.
  2. Plug in your Echo device into an outlet. In about a minute, Alexa will greet you and let you know to complete setup in the Alexa app.
  3. Open the Alexa app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device. If you aren’t prompted to set up your device after opening the Alexa app, tap the More icon to add your device manually.
  4. Once setup is complete, say “Alexa” to wake your Echo, then ask for music, news, weather, and more.

How to connect Apple Music to Alexa?

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app.
  2. In the lower-right corner, tap More.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Then tap Music & Podcasts.
  5. Next, tap Link New Service.
  6. Then select Apple Music from the list of services. If you do not see Apple Music, go back and select Default Services at the top of your screen. Then see if you can change any of them to Apple Music.
  7. Next, tap Enable to Use.
  8. Follow the instructions to sign in with your Apple ID.
