Spotify launched audiobooks section ot US users on September, 20, 2022, making it the only streaming service offering three types of audio content: music, podcasts and audiobooks. Initially, Spotify debuted more than 300,000 titles on a pay-per-book model, among them books by best-selling authors like Colleen Hoover, Michelle Obama and Stephen King, recommended by Spotify editors. Grand View Research says the global market for audiobooks could grow sevenfold by 2030 to reach a worth of $35 billion.

Audiobook hub is available to both Spotify free and premium users. Users can find the Audiobook hub on the Browse all section on Search page for the first time. Later, you can find them in library, curated recommendations on Home. Audiobooks will show up with a lock icon on the play button, signaling that they need to be purchased in order to listen. However, you can only purchase audiobooks on desktop app and web player, not including mobile app. After purchasing, the book will be automatically saved in your library. You can download the audiobook for offline listening whenever they want. Other features include automatic bookmarking, speed control and rating. Every title in the catalog is individually priced. We have browsed several titles, priced between $5.49 to $32.9.

Spotify VS. Audible

Spotify will go up against top audiobook providers like Apple, Amazon-owned Audible, Google, Nook, Rakuten Kobo, Chirp, Audiobooks.com and public library offerings, including via OverDrive. Audible controlled about 48% of U.S. audiobook unit sales for the monthly period ended mid-April, according to book-audience researcher Codex Group LLC. Currently, Spotify do not have exclusive titles to lure in listeners, like Audible’s Originals – though that could change in time.

Audible is the most popular audiobook provider. Audible offers 30-day free trial and 2 free audio titles. After that, you can subscribe to Audible Plus($7.95/month) or Audible Premium plus($14.95/month). With Audible Premium Plus plan, Audible awards you with one credit each month. You can use this credit to purchase Audible audiobooks in different categories. So it usually costs you $14.95 per audiobook to keep forever. If you want to buy more books, you can buy more Audible credits or pay per audiobook. You can cancel the subscription anytime.

Audile is making some audiobooks which are on Spotify’s Great first audiobooks section on sale.
