“The maximum volume of Spotify is too low. Any solution? Turning the Windows master volume up or the speaker/amp volume is no solution for me. Every other app, web-based, … is fine regarding the volume.”

A number of Spotify users are complaining that the max volume of Spotify on their devices is still very low. The problem is not new. Users have been complaining about the volume issue for years. Have you ever attempted to adjust the Spotify audio to make it louder and sound better? You can increase the volume on your device or volume slider on the app, but it might not be enough. Are there other ways to make Spotify louder and sound better all the time?

Yes, in the following parts, I’m going to show you how to make Spotify louder and sound great on the desktop client, iPhone, Android app and your smart speakers.

  1. Adjust Volume level
  2. Audio Normalization
  3. Choose Higher Music Quality
  4. Equalizer
  5. Play Spotify with other music player

1. Adjust Volume level

Spotify lets users adjust the base volume of the app depending on their environment. You can select either Quiet, Normal, or Loud, and each setting has its own impact.

  • Quiet will make your music experience a little quieter, making it a good choice if you are relaxing at home or reading books.
  • The normal level makes songs play at a medium base volume, and the sound is less crisp than Quiet. A normal level is ideal for most people and situations.
  • Loud volume level is good in a noisy environment or at the gym.

How to adjust Volume level on iOS?

  • Open the Spotify app.
  • Tap on the Settings icon in the top right corner of your screen.
  • Tap on Playback, and you will find the Volume level with three options- Loud, Normal, and Quiet.

How to adjust Volume level on Android device?

  • Open Spotify and tap on the Settings icon.
  • Scroll down to Playback and find Volume Level.
  • You should see Loud, Normal, and Quiet; pick the one depending on your surroundings.

How to adjust Volume level on computer?

  • Open Spotify and tap your profile icon and Settings.
  • Scroll down to Audio quality and find Volume level.
  • Select the dropdown menu next to Volume level and set it to the Loud option. Note that this can diminish audio quality, but the volume will be louder.

You can adjust the overall level for your environment. Next to Volume level, choose from:

  • Loud: Handy for noisy environments. You’ll hear less dynamic levels.
  • Normal: The default setting.
  • Quiet: Handy for quieter environments.

2. Audio Normalization

Audio normalization helps to ensure that the volume levels for any song or audio file you play using Spotify remain at the same level. It balances soft and loud songs, creating a more uniform listening experience. If you’d prefer to leave volume normalization on, you can change the impact of the setting.

Note: You can’t change audio settings when using Spotify Connect to play on another device.

On iOS

  1. Open Spotify app and tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Playback.
  4. Switch off Enable Audio Normalization.

On Desktop

  1. Open Spotify app, click profile icon in the top-right and select Settings.
  2. Under Audio Quality, switch off Normalize volume.

3. Choose Higher Music Quality

While Spotify will generally try to set the right streaming quality automatically, it’s possible for you to manually set this yourself. This forces Spotify to use a higher quality for certain devices, especially if you’re using Spotify with good audio equipment. Adjusting the audio can “trick” your ears into thinking it’s louder. To do this in the Spotify app on Windows or Mac, you’ll need to follow the steps below. But you can’t adjust music quality on the web player. Download the app to get more features!

You can have different settings for when you listen online with WiFi or with cellular (streaming quality).

You can also choose your download quality. Higher streaming quality uses more data, and higher download quality uses more space.

The higher you set it, the more data it will use. That’s typically not an issue for at-home use. However, you’ll need discretion while on cellular if you have a limited data plan.

On iOS

  1. Open Spotify app and tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Audio Quality.
  4. Select High or Very High.

Spotify offers different audio quality levels like Low (24kbps), Normal (96kbps), High (160kbps), and Very High (320kpbs). The higher the kbps, the more pristine and clean the audio stream. Only Premium users can choose Very high quality.

On Android

  1. Open Spotify app and tap Home icon.
  2. Tap Settings icon.
  3. Scroll to Audio Quality.
  4. Select High or Very High for WiFi streaming and Cellular streaming.

4. Equalizer

A music equalizer is used to allow you to adjust the volume levels for different types of audio. These help you to adjust how audio may sound in different environments. You will find the right sound for you. But this is only available as an option for Android, iPhone, and iPad users.

Note: You can’t change audio settings when using Spotify Connect to play on another device.

On iOS

  1. Open Spotify app and tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Playback.
  4. Tap Equalizer, and switch it on.
  5. Choose Loudness.
