What Is Spotify Autoplay

When you finish a playlist, album, or selected songs, Spotify Autoplay will automatically add similar tracks to your playing queue. With Autoplay, your music will continue streaming unless you stop it.

Autoplay Songs are chosen by Spotify algorithms, based on your listening history, genre you were playing, songs’ popularity, and more. Sometimes, transitions can be so smooth that you might not even notice Autoplay has started. But Autoplay may also play songs you don’t enjoy.

To see which songs will be played automatically, click or tap the play queue button on Spotify. To turn Autoplay on or off, you’ll need to use the Spotify app. The Spotify web player doesn’t currently support enabling or disabling this feature.

Spotify Autoplay vs. Smart Shuffle

Autoplay and Smart Shuffle can both keep your Spotify playing by automatically adding recommended tracks, but with different highlights.

One significant distinction is availability: Smart Shuffle is exclusive mainly to Spotify Premium subscribers, while Autoplay is available to both Free and Premium users.

Smart Shuffle blends similar tracks into your play queue, generally mixing one song for every three tracks. Autoplay, on the other hand, starts after your songs end and the recommendations continue to play. Recommended songs are marked with a sparkle symbol.

Spotify Autoplay vs Smart Shuffle

Smart Shuffle can be enabled or disabled directly on the playlist, while you need to go to Settings to turn Autoplay on or off. In addition, Smart Shuffle settings apply only to the current playlist, meaning you need to turn them on or off each time you listen to a different playlist or album. However, once enabled or disabled, Autoplay works for all music content you play.
