Part 1. How to change order of songs in Apple Music on Mac?

Change order of songs in Library

For songs in your library, you can sort your songs to play them in a specific order—use the Sort pop-up menu or click column headings to sort quickly. However, you can’t customize song order.

1. Open the Music app on your Mac, click Songs below Library in the sidebar.
2. Click the column heading to play songs in alphabetical order by song title, artist, or album (or sort by any other category). To show more categories, choose View > Show View Options.

Change order of songs in album

To change song order in an Apple Music album, you need to add it to a new playlist first.

1. Open the album, click … icon and choose Add to Playlist > New Playlist.

2. After the album is added to your library as a playlist, select it from the left side. Hold and drag any song to the position you desire.

Change song order in playlists

You can easily change the song order in a playlist you created by dragging and dropping songs to any position. If the playlist isn’t yours, you can add it to a new playlist and then change the song order as you wish.

In addition, here is an alternative to changing song order in any Apple Music playlist. First, you need to add it to your Library:

1. Open the playlist, click the + icon at the top right to add it to your Library.
2. Click the playlist in your Library, and select “View” > “as Songs” from the Apple Music menu.

3. Now you can click the column heading to sort songs by title, artist, album, or any other category available.

Change the order of songs in Library

To sort songs in your library, tap the three-line icon in the top-right corner and choose Artist, Title or Recently Added. You can choose to sort all songs or Favorited songs.

Change the order of songs in playlists/albums

Option 1. Add to a new playlist

To customize the song order in a playlist or album, open the playlist/album, tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner, and choose Add to a Playlist… > New Playlist.

On the following page, tap and hold the grey four-line icon to customize song order as you like. Then add a playlist title and tap save.

Option 2. Use Apple Music Playlist Sort

You can use this alternative on playlists, but not on albums.

1. Tap the + icon to add the playlist to your Library.
2. Tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner of the playlist and select “Sort by.”
3. Now you can sort the playlist by title, artist, album, or release date.

Part 3. How to change order of songs in Apple Music on iOS?

Sort songs in your library

Tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner and choose to sort the songs by Title, Date Added, or Artist. You can tap the three-line icon and choose to sort all songs or Favorited songs.

Sort the songs in a playlist or album

Option 1. Add to a new playlist

1. Tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner to add the playlist/album to a new playlist.
2. Then tap Library > Playlists, open the playlist.
3. Tap the three-dot icon and choose Sort By Playlist Order, Title, Artist, Album or Release Date. You can’t customize song order like on the Android Apple Music app.

Option 2. Use Apple Music Playlist Sort

1. Go to the playlist and tap the + icon to add the playlist to your Library.
2. Tap the three-dot icon at the top right and select “Sort by.”
3. Sort the playlist by playlist order, title, artist, album, or release date.
